How to Join the Marine Corps – 7 Easy Steps

Your decision to join the U.S. Marines will have life-changing implications. The lessons you learn in the military about yourself and the world around you will make an indelible impression on you for life. The United States Marine Corps has always been an expeditionary naval force ready to defend the nation’s interests overseas.

Marines are a highly exclusive, highly motivated bunch. Those who become Marines do so because they want to, not because of benefits or other reasons. Below are the 7 steps to becoming a Unites States Marine.

  • Is the Marine Corps right for me?
  • Decide if You’re Ready
  • Choose the Right Path for you
  • Meet with a Recruiter
  • Ace the ASVAB
  • Process In – MEPS
  • Get Ready for Marine Bootcamp

Is the Marine Corps right for me?
When choosing whether or not to join the Marine Corps, you need to consider any job or career change a stepping stone to a better life in the military. Consider the lifestyle, job, benefits, and opportunities that the Marine Corps can offer you.

Decide if You’re Ready
It can be stressful trying to decide if you are ready to step up to the plate of becoming a real Marine. There are many questions to ponder upon when considering to join. Decide if you are ready to leave behind the life you had and become an important part of the Marine Corps.

Choose the Right Path for you
Unsure of what field of interest is right for you? With the help of the Marine Corps, you will gain knowledge of management opportunities and leadership experience like no other. All occupations fall into one of two categories within the Marines: Ground and Air.

Meet with a Recruiter
Speaking with a Marine Recruiter is a vital part of learning and understanding if the Marine Corps is the right choice for you. They will help you in answering any questions you may have about enlisting or what to expect. They can give you guidance in making this process easier for you to decide on.

Ace the ASVAB
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. In addition to determining eligibility, the test also determines jobs available to you in each service and enlistment bonus incentives. You want to be fully prepared and ready to ace this test!

Process In – MEPS
The Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) plays a vital role in maintaining the nation’s military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces meets the highest mental, moral and medical standards. The MEPS is a Department of Defense joint-service organization staffed with military and civilian professionals.

Get Ready for Marine Bootcamp
Marine Corps Basic Training consists of 12 weeks of grueling, intense training that train and condition your body and mind so that you are fully prepared. It prepares you mentally, emotionally and physically for what is to come as well as the unexpected. Do you have what it takes to enlist in the Marine Corps?
