Education Benefits

Tuition Assistance
The Army Reserve provides a variety of tuition assistance programs such as independent study assistance, college and university assistance and the Montgomery GI Bill.

Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)
SLRP is an incentive program that helps you pay off your student loans. When used properly, this program allows you to greatly reduce or completely eliminate your educational debts.

Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)
The MGIB Program is an educational assistance program enacted by Congress to attract high quality men and women into the Armed Forces. View a description of education benefits under MGIB Chapter 1606 or Chapter 30.

MGIB Chapter 30 Increased Benefits
New legislation (Public Law 106-419) affecting participants in the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) allows active duty members (including AGR) to make an additional contribution.

 

VEAP Conversion
Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) Conversion under Public Law 106-419 provides an opportunity for some participants in VEAP (Chapter 32) to elect to participate in Chapter 30.

Voluntary Education
The Army Reserve offers opportunities for selected reserve soldiers to pursue their education on a voluntary basis.

DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support)
The Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Support (DANTES) supports the voluntary education functions of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, including the Military Services, Reserve and other DoD components.

Army Continuing Education System (ACES)
The Army Continuing Education System (ACES) provides programs and services that are consistent with soldiers’ professional and personal needs and goals.

Commissary

Commissary Cards/Visits
Army Reserve soldiers, former reserve members and their dependents are authorized commissary privileges if they meet eligibility requirements.

Legal Services & Protection

Legal Assistance
A variety of legal assistance and protection is available to Army Reserve soldiers

Uniformed Services Employment & Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)
USERRA protects the employment rights of National Guard, Reserve and Active component members of the armed forces.

Employer Support
The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is an agency within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs which promotes cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers.

Family Care Plan documents required for mobilized soldiers
Checklist to assist Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) soldiers in preparing for entry on active duty and movement to a mobilization station or port of embarkation.
