AUGUST 10, 2026 – Every citizen can vote in U.S. elections, even if you’re stationed overseas.
Whether it’s your first time voting or first time abroad, here’s your guide to absentee voting.
Register & Request:
Fill out the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) at FVAP.gov. Make sure to do this every year and each time you move to keep your info up to date!
Check State Eligibility:
Depending on your voting residence, you may also be eligible for absentee state and local ballots.
Receive & Send:
Ballots start arriving by mail in early October. Fill it out and send it back right away to avoid missing deadlines.
Backup Plan:
Ballot taking too long to get here? You can fill out the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot as a safety net. If you get the official ballot later, send that in too. Don’t worry, only one of them will get counted.
Track It:
Call or email your election office or track your ballot online to confirm the status of your ballot. If you have any questions, connect with your local Voting Assistance Officers or visit FVAP.gov.
