Stars and Stripes Provides Military Community with Annual Guide to Charitable Giving Through CFC

On October 18th, Stars and Stripes, the independent news source for the U.S. military, published its annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Guide, a supplement designed to help military personnel, DoD civilian and other Federal employees choose where to send their charitable contributions each year.

The CFC Guide provides a listing of the charitable organizations that participate in the Combined Federal Campaign, along with more detailed information about the services some of the charities provide. Federal employees and military members refer to the CFC Guide to inform their annual decisions to pledge a portion of their income to one or more nonprofits.

The CFC Guide will be distributed in all Stars and Stripes daily newspaper editions (Pacific, Middle East and Europe) and also will be included with base newspapers on selected military installations in the United States, as well as at AAFES centers and Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) distribution sites in the National Capital Region. Approximately 340,000 CFC Guides will be distributed stateside.

“The Stars and Stripes Combined Federal Campaign Guide is a valued resource for our readers, the military community,” says Michael Davidson, Director of Revenue Development. “They use it to identify, select and direct their contributions to worthwhile organizations. The CFC Guide also provides charitable organizations with a multi-platform approach to reach this desirable audience. In print, they reach top contributing overseas bases, the National Capital Region and other areas in the U.S. with large military populations – such as San Diego and Hawaii. And with the Guide available online at http://www.stripes.com, these organizations reach our worldwide readership.”

The Combined Federal Campaign is the largest workplace donation program in the United States and the world (also available where there is a significant U.S. presence, such as on military bases in Afghanistan). Running from September 1 until December 15, CFC raises millions of dollars every year to benefit eligible organizations that provide health and human services; in 2010 the campaign raised $281.50 million.

In addition to the print supplement, the Stars and Stripes CFC Guide will appear online at Stripes.com beginning October 18.
