PCS Joint Task Force Hosts Industry Day

AUGUST 14, 2025 – The Permanent Change of Station Joint Task Force met yesterday with movers, shippers and logistics providers during Industry Day to gather input on improving the Household Goods Relocation Program.

Industry Day gave representatives from private industry the opportunity to share insights, challenges and innovations directly with Defense Department leaders. The event aimed to generate solutions that address timeliness, trust, accountability and modernization in the HHG program.

“I understand that for some, household goods might not sound like the most glamorous part of the Department of Defense, but I assure you, it is absolutely critical to the morale and readiness of our force,” said Army Maj. Gen. Lance Curtis, PCS JTF commander.

Industry representatives discussed four key problem areas: innovative commercial practices; workforce incentivization; issues with program structure, pricing and claims; and broader industry ideas. The PCS JTF’s personnel documented each recommendation to help inform the task force’s report to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that is due Sept. 5.
Hegseth directed the creation of the PCS JTF in May as part of an effort to fix long-standing issues within the household goods moving process.

The PCS JTF emphasized a fair, consistent and reasonable approach to reform that incorporates clear standards and consequences for performance. Officials encouraged industry partners to share best practices in sustainable pricing, technology integration, workforce retention and peak-season management.

“We are looking for partners who understand the unique challenges faced by military families, who are committed to providing exceptional service, and who are willing to embrace new technologies and best practices,” Curtis said. “We need your expertise in logistics, supply chain management, customer service and technology to revolutionize the way we handle household goods moves.”

Industry participants have until Aug. 18 to submit up to five pages of recommendations to transcom.scott.tcaq.mbx.pp-ghc-contract-admin@mail.mil.

The PCS Joint Task Force recently launched a 24/7 call center to support service members, Defense Department civilians and their families with government household goods moves. It’s accessible via 833-MIL-MOVE (833-645-6683), PCSCallCenter@mail.mil or the PCS Joint Task Force Spotlight webpage. The center assigns trained military personnel to take ownership of each case, provide consistent updates and ensure issues are resolved.

The call center operates worldwide, offering assistance across time zones and addressing a broad range of PCS concerns. Established as part of the secretary’s reforms to the Defense Personal Property Program, the call center reflects the PCS JTF’s mission to reduce relocation stress and improve the quality of life for military families.

“This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our service members and their families,” Curtis said. “By working together, we can transform the Household Goods Program into a model of efficiency, reliability and customer satisfaction.”
