JULY 24, 2025 – Effective July 25, 2025, prime contractor, HomeSafe Alliance, will no longer provide household goods shipping services for the Defense Department and Coast Guard, said Army Maj. Gen. Lance G. Curtis, commander of the Permanent Change of Station Joint Task Force, during a press briefing today.
The contract with HomeSafe Alliance was terminated because it failed to meet performance standards by leaving military families stranded, confused and unsupported, Curtis said.
Service members currently in transit who are unsure where they stand with their shipment, should contact their local transportation office immediately for assistance, he said. They can also call 833-MIL-MOVE (833-645-6683). The call center hotline is available 24 hours a day and is staffed with about 110 members who can identify service members who may have potential PCS move difficulties.
The PCS JTF is staffed with representatives from each service who are actively coordinating the remaining HomeSafe Alliance shipments directly with personal property shipping offices to complete the move, Curtis said.
When service members worry about their household goods shipment and whether their belongings will arrive on time and intact, they can become distracted.
“What we’re trying to do is relieve that burden and make sure that our service members can remain focused on the mission. It’s just not acceptable for us to have any other kind of situation,” Curtis said.
“This is not just about a logistics problem,” he continued. “It’s operational. It’s about people, and it’s about delivering the kind of care, respect and responsiveness that our military families deserve.”
Subject matter experts are assisting with the short- and long-term planning that the JTF has been asked to conduct. The JTF will deliver a plan to the defense secretary by Sept. 5.
“We’re building on input from the families and experts within the household goods and the entire industry and command teams across the force,” Curtis said.
