4 Pros And Cons Of Joining the Army That No One Will Tell You

Joining Army

February 24, 2017, by Joseph Carey – Although everyone aspires to make a career in the services, it should not be an impulsive decision. Just because you have an army background does not imply that you should follow footsteps of your predecessors. Remember that army is a disciplined institution that runs on strict rules and regulations.

Besides, the life of an army man is filled with plenty of adventures. Therefore, it is always a tough call to make a career in the army and sustain it successfully. What primarily differentiates the life of a layman with an army man is the level of commitment and dedication involved in their profession.

While it is common to take a holiday with your family as a manager of a company, you cannot enjoy the same perks when you are working for the armed forces and you’ve to comply with the instructions of the high command whenever there is an emergency.

Similarly, you roam around anywhere with your family and friends while you are working in a civilian organization, you cannot find that freedom as a professional in the armed forces.

So if you are planning a career in the military, we present to you a list of 4 pros and cons of working in the army. Here they are:

Pros

  1. One of the advantages of joining the army is that you avail free higher education. So you do not have to pursue a student loan to support your studies and life. The facility of free education ensures that you are financially stable.
  2. Job security is another important perk that you benefit from a career in the services. The army is always supportive of its beloved soldiers who are ready to sacrifice their lives for the country. So you can expect a soft corner from the government and high command as they will never disgrace their soldiers by firing them unless of course the matter is as grave as treason, moral or financial corruption.
  3. The government offers lucrative stipends to their personnel that include handsome salary along with other valuable perks, such as rent, utilities, and fuel allowances. With such strong financial support, you are able to live a life with complete financial freedom.
  4. A job in military also provides you access to free healthcare, military grants and free flights to anywhere in the world. Besides, you will also get paid vacations each year with your family.

Cons

  1. A life in military deprives you of a healthy social life. Since you’ll be either assigned sensitive tasks or deputed on the border, you’ll not be able to spend time with your family and friends.
  2. Military operations involve extremely stressful tasks. You’ll be living under extreme conditions away from your home. There will be times when you’ve to participate in a war zone or perform covert operation of the armed forces. All these events can have profound effects on your mind and body.
  3. As an army man, you’ve to compromise on your privacy due to the strict standard operating procedure (SOP) of the armed forces. The military is vigilant of your activities and social circles to make sure that you are not a ‘security risk’ for the institution.
  4. Leaving the armed forces is not just about submitting a resignation letter. Since the army institution puts in a hefty investment on every soldier and shares confidential information with them, it is never easier to leave the army institution. Even after you leave the institution, you’ve to comply with the security regulation of the army which involves discretion and privacy of the information you’ve accumulated through your job in the organization.

Wrapping It Up…

If you are passionate about serving your homeland then what can be a better platform than a military service. Remember that a career in the army is not a bed of roses. It demands big sacrifices and compromises on your life. Therefore, it is important to understand the perks and hazards of a life in the services before you make a decision.
