August 5, 2014, CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (NNS) – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held July 25 for the new 130,000 square foot Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Marine Detachment at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
“The facility is a remarkable centerpiece for Marine Corps aviation, and was built with the same attention to detail and value as the Marine Corps aviation community that will train here,” said Lt. Cmdr. Warren LeBeau, resident officer in charge of construction (ROICC) for Camp Pendleton.
Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest awarded a $40.22 million design-build project to Harper Construction Co. Inc. to construct the consolidated training facility comprised of a high-rise applied instruction center with administrative spaces, a maintenance hangar and a separate multilevel parking structure.
The training facility will host 31 courses and educate an average of 700 students each year, sending fully trained maintenance Marines to operational fleet units for duty.
“Most notably, I would like to commend the Harper Construction and ROICC Camp Pendleton team on 1,014 days on the job with 214,000 work-hours without even a single first aid incident,” said LeBeau. “Well done.”
Construction of the CNATT Marine Detachment Facility implemented sustainable construction practices and design to the fullest extent possible. Approximately 38 percent of the daily hot water needs come through glycol solar panels on the parking canopy.
Additionally, the parking canopy photovoltaic system provides 587 kilowatts of direct current power, which provides 80 percent of the building’s operational needs.
