National Museum Hosts Special Event for Army’s 250th Birthday

JUNE 10, 2025 – The National Museum of the United States Army, just south of Washington, D.C. near Alexandria, Virginia, will host a day of family-friendly activities on Saturday, June 14, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., to mark the U.S. Army’s 250th Birthday. Visitors will also have the chance to experience the new special exhibition, CALL TO Arms: The Soldier and the Revolutionary War.

Located off the Fairfax County Parkway, minutes from I-95, the Museum offers area residents and out-of-town visitors a fitting and convenient way to mark the historic day. Free tickets can be reserved from the Museum’s website and walk-ups are also welcome. On-site parking and admission are free.

The Museum’s admission includes access to the new 5,000 square-foot Revolutionary War exhibition featuring a rare collection artifacts from the original colonies, England, France and Cananda, with the international artifacts on display in the United States for the first time. Birthday activities will include interactive storytelling, crafts and scavenger hunts. The Museum Store will feature discounts and giveaways, while the Museum Café will offer complimentary birthday cookies while they last!

CALL TO Arms: The Soldier and the Revolutionary War opened on June 7. Among the exhibit’s highlights are a pair of General George Washington’s pistols, the original flag of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment carried by the Army’s first African American Soldiers, and a complete Loyalist uniform—one of the rarest items in the collection. The sword of British General Charles Lord Cornwallis, presented to Washington at the surrender at Yorktown, Virginia, will also be displayed for a limited time.

Two interactive, 3-D topographical maps will show and tell visitors about the Battle of Bunker Hill and the Siege of Yorktown. Interactive, touch-screen kiosks will break down the Northern and Southern theaters by battle. The visitor experience will also be enhanced by seven life-sized cast figures that help bring to life the personal perspectives of real individuals who fought on the side of independence.

The Museum is open daily with free admission from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (closed December 25). Free tickets are available by request through the Museum’s website at theNMUSA.org.
