Job Reservation Program Continues Through FY13

By Debbie Gildea
Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs

9/28/2012 – JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas — The Air Force career job reservation program will continue through fiscal year 2013, with more than 1,000 Airmen from 30 career fields likely to be affected, Air Force officials announced today.

The CJR program is implemented to help control the number of first-term Airmen allowed to reenlist in career fields with overages, said Michael McLaughlin, AFPC Air Force Reenlistments Branch chief.

First-term Airmen selected by their commanders for continued military service (made eligible to reenlist) will automatically be considered for a CJR upon entering the first month of their CJR window.

Although the CJR consideration is automatic, McLaughlin said affected Airmen would be wise to go to the virtual Military Personnel Flight webpage and ensure their records and reenlistment eligibility codes are accurate.

CJRs are awarded the 25th of each month, and Airmen who are not selected for a CJR will be reconsidered the following month, McLaughlin explained.

“If you aren’t selected, for whatever reason, that doesn’t mean that your career is over,” he said. “In addition to being considered the next month, you can always apply for retraining or a special duty assignment.”

A variety of special duty opportunities and retraining quotas are listed on the myPers website. McLaughlin advises Airmen to carefully review their options.
“Don’t focus only on fields that seem exciting or popular. Consider fields that can help you develop new skills, greater awareness of the Air Force mission, or leadership abilities,” he said.

Airmen and their supervisors will be notified monthly regarding their CJR status, and the virtual MPF will be updated to reflect status changes.

Airmen who are not selected for a CJR or for retraining may reapply for retraining or a special duty if they are not within 120 days of their separation date.
