The US Army selected Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Heilman from Fort Jackson as the 2012 active duty Army Drill Sergeant of the Year; and Staff Sgt. Jarod Moss as the 2012 Army Reserve Drill Sergeant of the Year. Both Drill Sergeants of the Year were awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
The competitors endured physical and mental challenges during a four-day competition which tested their knowledge of Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills and their ability to teach these tasks to new Soldiers. The selection process concluded with each drill sergeant appearing before a board to evaluate their knowledge of leadership and drill sergeant training tasks.

Navy Reserve leadership delayed the release of the cycle 90 E4 – E6 advancement results in order to incorporate the results of a Navy study on the Reserve Forces. The findings of this study provided the opportunity to make a better informed decision on how to maximize promotion opportunities for all E4 – E6 Sailors. The cycle 90 E4 – E6 advancement results are schedule to be released July 2.

One soldier dead and two wounded following a shooting incident at Fort Bragg, June 28th.
During a safety brief, a Soldier shot another member of the unit and then turned the weapon on himself. The shooter was injured and is in custody. A third Soldier who was in the area was also slightly wounded in the shooting.
