Eagle Offering Free Public Tours During Sail Boston

JULY 13, 2026 — U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle (WIX 327) will conclude its series of Sail250 port calls this week during Sail Boston. During its port call, Eagle will be open to the public for free public tours at Charlestown Navy Yard’s Pier 1.

Sail Boston is part of a national series of maritime events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The cutter’s visit offers the public a unique opportunity to step aboard a historic square-rigger and interact with the cadets and crew who represent the future of the Coast Guard.

Eagle will be moored at Pier 1 of the Charlestown Navy Yard and will offer free public tours during the following dates and times:

  • Sunday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Monday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

No tickets are required.

To visit Eagle, also known as America’s Tall Ship, visitors will need a photo ID and be able to climb stairs to access the tour.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors, the Coast Guard requests that the public adhere to the following guidelines before boarding the historic vessel:

Footwear: Flat, closed-toe shoes are highly recommended due to steep ladders, uneven decking and standard nautical hazards.

Prohibited items: Weapons of any kind, large backpacks, glass containers, and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited on the pier and aboard the cutter.

Accessibility: Due to the historic nature and original design of the ship, the Eagle is not fully accessible.

About the Coast Guard Cutter Eagle
At 295 feet in length, the Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the United States Flag and the only active square-rigger in U.S. government service. Originally constructed in 1936 by the Blohm and Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, the vessel was taken as a war reparation by the United States following World War II. Today, the Eagle serves as a premier seagoing classroom for cadets from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and officer candidates from Officer Candidate School, providing foundational leadership and practical seamanship training.

How to Translate Your Military Experience into a Winning Civilian Career

AUGUST 6, 2026 – For service members in transition and veterans building civilian careers, the hardest part often isn’t the work itself, it’s explaining it.
