JUNE 2, 2023 – The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment are hosting the 2023 DOD Climate Resilience Workshop from July 10-13 in St. Louis, Missouri.
This workshop provides a forum for DOD stakeholders and partners to explore the many facets of climate change, a national security threat that has tangible impacts to military readiness.
During this workshop, attendees will learn about several lines of effort in DOD’s Climate Adaptation Plan, including supporting climate-informed decision-making, creating resilient built and natural infrastructure, and enhancing adaptation and resilience through collaboration.
On July 11, Brendan Owens, Assistant Secretary of Defense for EI&E will speak on the “Enhancing Climate Resilience Across the Federal Government” plenary session panel with Rachel Jacobson, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment; Bob Thompson, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for EI&E; and Ravi Chaudhary Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for EI&E about their Services’ plans and priorities for addressing climate change.
This plenary session panel will be immediately followed by over 30 issue sessions, deep dives, and workshops focused on DOD’s partnerships, strategic plans, and installation resilience project examples.
“As climate change events create new mission challenges, the Department must work across all levels of government and with trusted partners to preserve the resilience, reliability, and sustainability of our critical infrastructure and built environment,” said Brendan Owens, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment. “The DOD Climate Resilience Workshop is an opportunity to bring together an interdisciplinary group of professionals from local, state, federal, and non-governmental organizations to discuss data, tools, and resources for enhancing the Department’s climate resilience at our installations.”
Registration for the 2023 DOD Climate Resilience Workshop is free and open to DOD personnel and its partners and stakeholders. You can register for the workshop on the DOD Climate Resilience Workshop website and book your hotel reservation.
