Coast Guard Supports Sail Grand Prix 2025

JUNE 4, 2025 — The Coast Guard is scheduled to enforce an exclusion zone established under a temporary special local regulation in New York Harbor from Thursday, June 5, through Sunday, June 8, in support of Sail Grand Prix 2025.

Sail Grand Prix (Sail GP) is scheduled to bring 12 international teams to Upper New York Bay to compete in close-to-shore racing with F50 catamarans.

The race exclusion zone impacts vessel traffic west of Governors Island during the three-hour race and during practice runs in advance of the official start.

For planning purposes, the exclusion zone is scheduled to be enforced from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 5 and 6, and from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, and on Sunday, June 8.

Non-participant vessels are not permitted to enter into, transit through, moor, or anchor within the designated and enforced exclusion zone unless authorized by the Coast Guard.

All non-participant vessel operators desiring to enter the exclusion zone must obtain permission from the Captain of the Port by contacting on-scene Coast Guard patrol craft on VHF-FM channel 81A, or the Coast Guard Sector New York command center via channel 16.

Violating the exclusion zone is prohibited. Boaters who enter the zone will be escorted from the area immediately and may be subject to fines of up to $11,823. Additionally, credentialed mariners may be subject to suspension and revocation proceedings against their merchant mariner credential.

More information on the event, including additional maps of the affected area, can be found on the Sail GP site at https://sailgp.com/races/24-25/new-york-sail-grand-prix/overview.
