MAY 29, 2026 – The Department of the Air Force honored its leading safety performers for fiscal year 2025, celebrating their commitment to protecting Airmen and Guardians. These top advocates have been lauded for weaving disciplined operations and meticulous risk management into every stage of their missions, from planning and preparation to execution and final assessment.
Brig. Gen. Otis Jones, the Department of the Air Force’s chief of safety, highlighted the essential role of these efforts.
“Safety is more critical than ever as the Air Force and Space Force confront increasingly complex challenges,” he stated. “This requires a fundamental shift in our approach to risk management. The contributions of these awardees have safeguarded our most vital asset — our people — and preserve our combat capabilities for future conflicts.”
This annual awards program serves to recognize the outstanding achievements of individuals, teams, and entire organizations in fostering a culture of safety, managing risk, and preventing accidents.

Your dedication has directly enhanced our warfighting readiness, ensuring we continue to be the most powerful and effective Air Force and Space Force in the world.”

Koren Kolligian Jr. Trophy
Capt. Michael H. Cloninger, 90th Fighter Squadron, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska
This award recognizes outstanding airmanship by a Total Force individual aircrew member in the U.S. Air Force. The crewmember must show extraordinary skill, alertness, ingenuity, or proficiency in averting or minimizing the seriousness of an aviation mishap during flight or intent for flight.
