APRIL 21, 2017, WASHINGTON (NNS) – The Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) program, part of the Department of Defense Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program, was created in 2011 to address the military spouses facing barriers to employment related to their mobile military lifestyle.
Here are ‘5 Things to Know’ on the MSEP program and how it can help military spouses find employment:
1. The MSEP Portal (https://msepjobs.militaryonesource.mil) connects military spouses to employers. Companies post jobs on the portal for access by military spouses, ranging from entry-level to executive management/leadership.
2. There are currently over 335 MSEP partners representing sectors ranging from Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, non-profits, federal government/DoD, and the academic and health sectors. To date, MSEP partners have posted over five million jobs, and MSEP has facilitated over 103,000 spouse hires.
3. MSEP is a key program under SECO, a wide-ranging effort that facilitates expert education and career guidance to military spouses worldwide and offers comprehensive information, tools and resources to support career exploration, education, training and licensing, employment readiness, and career connections. SECO is part of a service member and family support website, www.militaryonesource.mil/seco.
4. Military spouses have access to educational and career counseling services at no cost through the SECO Spouse Career Center. The extensive support includes free access to personality and career assessments and well as information on teleworking and working from home careers.
5. Through SECO, eligible military spouses also have access to the My Career Advancement Account Scholarship, a workforce development program that provides up to $4,000 of financial assistance for spouses married to service members on active duty in junior pay grades to meet their education, licensing, or certification goals.
