Entitlement is authorized for dental officers on active duty for at least one year. These dental officers, serving less than a year, are eligible:
- Reservists ordered to active duty, other than training, for more than 30 days but less than a year
- Active duty dental officers involuntarily retained under 10 USC 12305
- Active duty dental officers who voluntarily remain when some are involuntarily retained
- Retirees recalled to active duty for more than 30 days under 10 USC 688.
The monthly rate payable starts at $250.00 if the officer is an intern or has less than three years of creditable service. If the officer is not an intern, the rate continues to increase to a maximum of $1000.00 for those between 8 to 12 years of creditable service.
The monthly rate payable continues to decrease to $666.67 for those officers with 18 or more years of creditable service. Officers in pay grades above 06, regardless of the years of creditable service, can receive a maximum of $583.33 per month.
