How Can Veterans Further Their Education Even After a Long Break

FEBRUARY 23, 2022 – Veterans often have a difficult time transitioning back to civilian life. One of the biggest challenges is finding a job that can match their skills and experience. However, many veterans find that continuing their education can be a great way to transition back into society. There are new rules for finding a job in 2022, and having extra qualifications can often help.

In this article, we’ll discuss some of the ways veterans can further their studies – even after taking a long break from school.

By Taking Online Degrees

These courses are often more affordable than traditional on-campus programs. Veterans can choose their subjects depending on their interests and career goals. It’s possible to take online degrees in aviation, business, cinematography, communications, computer engineering and more. Specialist websites discuss online college courses and online associates degrees, and compare undergraduate to graduate degrees.

Thanks to the flexibility of online learning, veterans can study at their own pace and work around their busy schedules/home responsibilities.

By Attending Veteran-Friendly Colleges

These colleges have a set of policies and procedures in place specifically designed to support veteran students. Such schools typically offer veteran-specific scholarships, dedicated advisors, credit for military training, and other services and amenities tailored to help veterans succeed academically.

Many schools have made it their mission to help veterans focus on their studies and not worry about bureaucratic hassles. Some excellent colleges for veterans include:

  • The University of Chicago
  • Dartmouth College
  • Brown University
  • Princeton University
  • University Of California, Los Angeles
  • Stanford University

The list of veteran-friendly colleges is constantly growing, so it’s important to do your research and find the school that best suits your needs.

By Using GI Bill benefits

If you’re a veteran seeking education after military service, the GI Bill can help make it possible. GI Bill benefits can be used for education and training programs offered by colleges, universities, trade schools, or other approved educational institutions.

There is financial assistance for books and supplies, plus a monthly housing allowance to help make school more affordable. With GI Bill benefits, there’s no need to worry about paying for school out-of-pocket. To get started in a new career field or take a degree, why not check out the GI Bill website?

By Viewing The Internet

Some people may wish to learn new subjects and skills without achieving a formal qualification. One way to do this is by viewing specialist websites, blogs and Youtube channels. They can provide detailed tutorials and advice on a host of different subjects. There are also step-by-step guides on how to improve your studying techniques. They can be equally beneficial for people preparing for part-time or full-time education. There are also websites that provide invaluable tips on how to succeed in university.

As you can see, there are many ways a veteran can further their education after a long break. In turn, an individual can feel more integrated into civilian life, more confident and more qualified. Education can be just the tool you need to open the career path for your future.
