4 Great Degrees for When You Complete Your Military Service

4 Great Degrees

March 22, 2016, by Anica Oaks – Military service trains you in countless ways. It gives you leadership skills, impresses the value of hard work upon you, and bestows an amazing amount of discipline in you.

Couple this with the fact that you are afforded certain benefits for education when you return from service, and it only makes sense that higher education is something you want to strive to acquire.

Let’s explore four great degrees that are compatible with people who have completed military service.

1. Engineering

Engineers work to solve countless problems. They may draft solutions for designing buildings, creating roads, installing infrastructure for cities, creating components in a car, and so on.

The reason an engineering degree meshes so well with people whom have completed military service revolves around your ability to achieve with the supplies around you. This tends to give former military personnel the ability to think of many solutions that use different materials.

The best part of this career is that a good engineer is always in demand. The field of engineering and the respective demand for new engineers is expected to continue to grow into 2022.

2. Public Policy

While soldiers fight wars, it is politicians who ultimately decide to go to war. They also are major influences in making decisions that affect civil liberties, day-to-day life and more.

A degree in public policy can help you develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand the politics of the world. It can give you the skills you need to become active in politics, to explain political concepts to others, and to teach. These days public policy even incorporates big data in order to make better decisions in the public sphere.

Institutions like the New England College can allow you to acquire a Master of Arts in Public Policy with just two years of study. This makes it one of the faster degrees to achieve.

3. Computer Engineering

While computer engineering does fall within the boundaries of engineering, it is far different from planning roads or drafting designs for buildings. It aims to improve upon the technology we have for a better and brighter tomorrow.

The reason this degree aligns with former military personnel pertains to the way it incorporates math and science with problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Military personnel tend to have these skills given the need for them.

4. Management

Military personnel are generally taught to be more than soldiers. They learn the skills necessary to lead other people, which in turn makes them incredibly unique.

Business management tends to align with these leadership skills. A degree in management can teach you the skills you need to manage your own business or help someone else manage their own.

Given that businesses need a strong leader to succeed, this makes former military personnel great for this role.

Achieving Success with a Variety of Career Paths

Military service trains you in many ways. The skills and knowledge you have learned will help make you successful in countless different careers.

By picking one of the degrees above, you will ensure that your career path is oriented towards challenge, success and excitement.
