Taking Care Resources When Employees are Called to Serve – HR Responsibilities

Called to Serve

August 14, 2017, by Henry Kingston – Humans are the most important resource of any organization. Whether small sized or large sized, all employees are hands in that organization, and with these hands an employer gets things done.

There are many different types of employees working in any organization. In some organizations people working belong to reserve forces. A reservist is, in fact, a servant of the Armed Forces who is not regular but is called to serve occasionally. If you have such work force, you might be aware of this fact because of the off duty leave requirements by these employees.

In the case of small companies this is not a big deal if one employee who is also a reserve servant gets leave, but in the case of a large organization where time is essence and work must be done within time limits, this is a big deal to manage their leaves. The fact of importance is that an employer cannot deny their employee’s leave requirements because of the legal status of their duties.

It is good to make arrangements in advance for dealing with matters in their absence. If you have a reservist as an employee, and they get a call for duty for serving the country, you need to make proper arrangements. This is important so that in their absence work is not interrupted. One of the ways in which you can control workforce is to control workforce centrally. This is basically a matter of HR essentials. This means that there must be a proper system where details of such employees are maintained specifically.

Under such a system it will be easy to find and edit the records of employees and review and authorize their holiday requests. It must also incorporate a mechanism for tracking and tackling absences and for discovering useful insights regarding workforce. An important factor to consider is whether their call for duty is an actual one or it is merely an excuse to avoid coming to the office for a few days.

With a proper HR management program dealing with time off requests for members of the reserve forces is an easy task. Normally leaves of the reserve force members are not always granted and it is necessary to check whether they should be honored or not. This is because sometimes employees` absence causes serious harm like fewer sales, reputational risks, unable to timely deliver products/services, negatively affecting research and development areas and much more. If any of these factors are considered significant, you may reject these and provide solid evidence for non-granting.

It is necessary for a human resource management system to be an interactive one because it includes techniques for boosting staff performance. It is good to know how to manage a job joined by you after you are retired from the forces but still working as a reserve force member. Proper human resource knowledge can provide important insight into this matter.

Keeping a record of their work is necessary because it helps in checking whether they have completed their tasks before leaving for their called duties. Maintaining progress reports by keeping complete task details is good as well because it helps in deciding how to tackle their pending tasks in their absence. You want to consider all aspects, both for your business and for your Reservist employee, so that no one is at a loss.
