What to Bring to Basic Military Training

Packing for BMT
When packing for Basic Military Training, less is more. You want to stay as comfortable and under the radar as you can to avoid any unwanted attention. Do not bring anything that is considered inappropriate or it will be confiscated.

Clothing and Accessories

  • Four days worth of civilian clothes
  • Civilian eyeglasses
  • Boxers or briefs – Male
  • Underpants – Female
  • White sports bra – Female
  • Hair bands, bobby pins, etc.
  • Nylons/pantyhose
  • Watch

Personal Hygiene Products
Make sure you only bring items that are easy to clean for inspection.

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Toothbrush, square toothbrush tray and flip-top toothpaste/powder
  • Liquid soap (dispensers)
  • Shower Shoes (Black)
  • Hairnet (female)
  • Deodorant
  • Shaving equipment
  • Brushes or combs
  • Sanitary napkins or tampons
  • Fingernail clippers
  • Laundry Soap

Banking Materials
It is required that all recruits set up a direct deposit account.

  • The name of your bank
  • Your bank routing number
  • Your account number
  • Your ATM card

Paperwork
Make copies of all important paperwork.

  • Social Security Card
  • Enlistment Contract
  • College transcripts, Civil Air Patrol Certificates and any JROTC certificates
  • Driver’s License
  • Alien Card and/or naturalization certificates
  • Marriage license and birth certificates for your dependents

Medical Materials
Bring all prescription medication in it’s original container to BMT. A military doctor will examine the prescription and reissue medication from the pharmacy on-base, if necessary. Female recruits taking birth control should continue to do so throughout BMT.

Other Items
It is important that you memorize your Social Security number. This number will be used often as your identification number on base.

    Ballpoint pen – black

  • Notebook and paper
  • Roll of quarters – two

Things NOT to bring

  • Cigarettes or tobacco of any kind
  • Running shoes other than white New Balance
  • Makeup
  • Expensive jewelry
  • Food or candy
  • Magazines
  • Radio/CD/MP3 player
