ATLANTA – Author and former soldier Frederick O. Scheer wrote his new book “A European Sojourn 1943-1945 An Autobiography Pvt. Frederick O. Scheer Serial No. 14118781: As Recounted to Rear Admiral William O. Miller J A G C USN (Ret.)” (published by Trafford Publishing) following recommendations from veterans who have listened to his war stories for years.
Scheer’s new book is the personal account of his Jewish upbringing in a small town to his entry into the United States Army during World War II as a 20-year-old man. During his first excursion beyond the borders of his home state, he found himself sequestered in a prisoner-of-war work camp in Adorf, Germany. Stories like these and more can be found within Scheer’s memoir, offering readers a glimpse into the gruesome details of the war and the overwhelming relief felt at its end.

About the Author
Frederick O. Scheer grew up as the second of four children and the firstborn son of the only Jewish family in Eatonton, Georgia. In 1942, as a freshman at the University of Georgia, he joined the enlisted reserves of the United States Army and was called to active duty in the spring of 1943. Over the years, Scheer has enjoyed speaking to Kiwanis Clubs and other groups where, even today, he is asked predominantly questions about his war experience. Based on this discovery, he began to search out other former prisoners of war and gather their stories as well. He returned to the University of Georgia after the war and in 1947 married Gerry Kessler. The couple eventually settled in Atlanta, where they raised their three children. Now retired from a successful career in commercial real estate, he and his wife, Gerry, live in Atlanta.
