Serving Your Country: 5 Exciting Military Careers You Should Consider

MAY 6, 2015, by Rachelle Wilber – Serving one’s country is both an honor and a privilege. But it is also beneficial to one’s education and career. Below introduces five exciting military jobs that offer plenty of career opportunities and earning potential.

Cyber Warfare

A Cyber Warfare Specialist is one of the most coveted military jobs that guarantees a high paying job in the civilian world. Many experts say that the strongest growing aspects of global warfare are cyber warfare and fourth-generation warfare (4GW). Hackers and terrorists around the world can attack America without ever leaving home. But the Army is very serious about cyber warfare and has established its own new Cyber School in Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Defense and Intelligence

The American defense industry is in dire need of Intelligence and National Security professionals. These individuals need to be competent, knowledgeable and dedicated to their country. The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) offers a unique online home land security degree through their National Security Studies Institute. This Master’s program focuses on training the next generation of Intelligence and National Security professionals who will serve and protect the country.

Government agency employment opportunities can be found at the Department of State, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Defense (DOD), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), National Security Agency (NSA) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Job opportunities are also available through civilian employers, such as consulting firms or defense contract companies.

Public Health

While being a doctor may not sound exciting to some, a free medical education should get your attention. The military pays for medical schools, which allows individuals to serve their country, provide critical medical services and establish a career that translates well into the civilian world. In addition to this, science and research officers perform important research that can make the difference in millions of lives around the world. The military offers the opportunity to study medicine or science for free while guaranteeing a high paying civilian job.

Music

Joining the military to play an instrument is not a common reason for enlistment. However, all branches of the military offer a music or band program. The artistic soul who wants to serve their country without combat can audition, go through music training school and travel the world.

In conclusion, the military offers many different career opportunities. Some of the most unique and exciting opportunities can be found in cyber warfare, defense and intelligence, public health and music.
