MAY 7, 2015, PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AFNS) – Military members are often told the mission comes first, but for Jane-Marie Kopycinski, military members and their families are the mission — and some might argue the most critical component of the force.
Kopycinski, a 21st Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center (A&FRC) consultant, spent her first 10 years as an Air Force civilian managing the outdoor recreation center at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, after which she moved to Peterson Air Force Base.
Working here for the last 17 years, Kopycinski initially spent much of her time with outdoor recreation before moving to the A&FRC.
“I like creating environments that people can enjoy,” she said.
During her time with outdoor recreation, Kopycinski said she loved to be out and about as she is a hands-on type of person. However, as a member of the A&FRC team, Kopycinski now works on a more intimate level with Airmen and their families.
“I like helping people,” Kopycinski said.
She added that not only is her job both rewarding and fulfilling, she also enjoys the challenge of providing answers and solutions to those seeking assistance.
Additionally, Kopycinski serves as an Air Force Aid officer and takes great pride in the fact that she’s able to help families with few other resources at their disposal.
She said that financial issues can be a tremendous stressor on a family, and the fact that she is able to help alleviate that burden is truly special.
“I’m able to assist Airmen and their families so they are able to do their job,” Kopycinski said. “It’s like I get to take care of units around base on an individual level.”
She recalled one couple who was having money troubles due to unexpected medical expenses. This couple had previously sought AFA monetary assistance and believed they would be turned away this time.
However, due to Kopycinski’s diligence she was able to provide the two with the help they desperately needed.
“It’s amazing because you can literally see the burden being lifted from their shoulders,” she said.
Kopycinski has done many great things during her tenure at Peterson AFB, and the A&FRC team here is a remarkable one that works tirelessly to help and support the Airmen and families of the 21st Space Wing in any way they can.
