Programs for Vets: Top 4 Financial Resources for Veterans

JUNE 26, 2015 by – If you have served in the armed forces, you should be aware that there are many programs that offer veterans financial benefits. Often veterans are not well informed about financial programs that may benefit them. Let us examine four financial resources that veterans will be able to take advantage of now.

The Unmet Needs Program

Sponsored by the VFW (Veterans of Foreign War), the unmet needs program is an often overlooked resource intended for veterans who could use serious financial help. If you have been deployed overseas in the last six-years, or if you are put through financial struggles because of other military-related activities, then this grant-based program may be a lifeline for those going through hard financial times. In most cases, this money has been appropriated to families of veterans to help with paying for housing and other living expenses.

USA Cares VA and Military Assistance

The USA Cares organization helps veterans in financial need on a number of different levels. Leveraging the accumulation of private donations and other financial aid programs, this makes USA Cares different from other organizations helping veterans. According to USAcares.org, USA Cares will respond within 48-hours after screening applicants for financial aid. This program not only provides financial resources for stopping foreclosure, but also helps with other financial burdens, such as food expenses and PTSD in-patient treatment.

Low VA Home Loan Rates

While it is generally difficult to identify financial assistance services not affiliated with government programs, unaffiliated private industry programs do in fact exist. One such program is the home loan program offered by Low VA Rates. As a result of the VA loan guarantee, veterans seeking to purchase a home through a VA type loan do not need to provide a down payment, nor is there any need to purchase home owner’s insurance. Getting a great low rate on one’s home loan is a plus that will help many veterans reduce their financial liabilities when applicable.

Vantage Mobility International

Since veterans who are disabled in military service often need help reintegrating back into civilian life with their disability, organizations like Vantage Military International help these veterans to access the financial aid they need for wheelchair accessible vans. Veterans with severe mobility-based disabilities are able to draw up to $49,000 from Veteran benefits for the purchase of such adaptive vehicles. Vantage Military International will help disabled veterans to file claims and obtain the funding due to them by law.

With a little research, it is possible to find literally hundreds of government and private-based programs that help veterans going through financial distress. Whether they need money for a new home or to supplement a disability acquired during service to their country, the types of financial aid provided by these programs varies widely. Some programs may be harder to qualify for than others, but it never hurts to check them out to see how they might benefit a deserving veteran in need.
