The Coast Guard and 9/11… 25 Years Later

AUGUST 25, 2026 – The Foundation for Coast Guard History and the U.S. Coast Guard Historian’s Office will host a special program, “The Coast Guard and 9/11… 25 Years Later,” from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at the Army and Navy Club in Washington.

The program will explore the Coast Guard’s response to the Sept. 11 attacks, details of the greatest maritime evacuation in modern history, and the lasting impact of those events on the service, its missions and the nation. Adm. Thad Allen, 23rd commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, and Charles “Skip” Bowen, 10th master chief petty officer of the Coast Guard, will headline the event.

Attire at the Army-Navy Club is business appropriate, or military uniform of the day.

Light refreshments will be served prior to the start of the program.

The event is free, but RSVP is required. Please RSVP by close of business on Sept. 3, 2026, to history@uscg.mil.
