Army Partners with FedEx for Supply Chain Logistics

AUGUST 24, 2026 — The Department of the Army announced its newest project under the Army’s Strategic Capital Initiative — a landmark collaboration with a FedEx Dataworks-led team of logistics and technology experts, to undertake a sweeping modernization of its domestic non-tactical logistics networks, supply chain procedures and organic industrial base sites.

“Under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth’s leadership, the Army is holding itself to a new standard,” said Hon. Dan Driscoll, secretary of the Army. “A Soldier can order brake pads for his pickup and they’re on his porch the next day. There is no reason the Army can’t achieve that same level of speed and reliability for the warfighter. Logistics win wars. Through the Strategic Capital Initiative, we’re pairing the Army’s depots and demand with FedEx’s logistics expertise and Google’s secure cloud to build a supply chain that moves as fast as the fight demands.”

To meet 21st century threats, the Army is accelerating modernization through the SCI. This initiative centers on aligning the Army’s most acute, strategic needs with privately investable, commercial models to rapidly scale critical infrastructure upgrades — without waiting years for traditional procurement cycles and maximizing value to the taxpayer, industry and the Army.

Bringing Commercial Logistics Best Practices to the Military
FedEx, through the power of FedEx Dataworks, is leveraging its world-class expertise in data-driven insights to help advance the military’s logistics network. In collaboration with the FedEx-led team, the Army aims to create a predictive, intelligent logistics network to optimize materiel management and improve transportation routing, as well as modernize its physical logistics infrastructure.

“FedEx operates the world’s largest shipping and logistics network, connecting highly critical and precision-dependent supply chains for customers,” said Raj Subramaniam, CEO of FedEx Corp. “We are honored to bring our expertise to support the U.S. Army’s vital mission. Together, we are enabling active modernization of supply chains to help the Army build a resilient, secure and data-driven network that meets the rigorous demands of national security.”

FedEx will apply its expertise in large-scale orchestration to Army materiel management, optimizing stock levels and demand forecasting.

“We are evaluating transportation routing and modes to cut delivery times across the Army, and transitioning from a dated supply system to a predictive, intelligent network to ensure the warfighter receives critical equipment at the time of need,” said Dave Fitzgerald, Deputy Undersecretary of the Army.

Uncompromised Security for a Data-Driven Industrial Engine
As the Army sustainment enterprise transforms into a predictive, data-driven industrial engine, securing its logistical data is paramount. This secure environment will be housed within Google’s DoD Impact Level 5 authorized commercial cloud. It will leverage Google Cloud to host FedEx capabilities and connect with legacy Army data sources, all while maintaining the strict identity management and encryption protocols required to protect national defense data.

Empowering the Civilian Workforce
Integrating automation and technology into the Army sustainment enterprise is a direct investment in the Army’s civilian and military workforce. The Army’s civilian workforce performs a vital role in enabling readiness, delivering capabilities, and sustaining operations worldwide.

“We are not just modernizing systems; we are investing in our people,” said Fitzgerald. “Integrating advanced technology will not replace our workforce; it will remove friction and increase speed and effectiveness. By upskilling our personnel to manage these advanced systems, we are empowering our Soldiers and dedicated civilian workforce to timely deliver the critical support our warfighters require in a safer and smarter way.”

The collaboration will begin by the Army and FedEx-led team forming working groups to analyze existing networks, processes, and technologies. A finalized implementation plan for U.S. based sites is expected by November 2026.
