Army EOD Specialists Dispose of Legacy Munitions

AUGUST 14, 2026 – Reflecting a steadfast commitment to the safety, health, and welfare of the people of Palau, U.S. Army Pacific forces integrated a real-world humanitarian mission into Exercise Tenacious Archer 26, leveraging a joint, multi-component of Active Duty, Army Reserve, and National Guard service members.

At the request of the Palauan government, highly trained U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Soldiers executed a complex operation to safely dispose of legacy World War II-era White Phosphorus munitions.

“This effort is a direct result of close coordination between the U.S. Army, the Government of Palau, U.S. Embassy Koror, Norwegian People’s Aid, and Joint Task Force–Micronesia,” said Maj. Gen. Lance A. Okamura, Deputy Commanding General (Homeland Affairs) for U.S. Army Pacific. “Tenacious Archer 26 exemplifies how U.S. forces work hand-in-hand with host nations and international partners to solve complex challenges and build lasting trust.”

The successful disposal mission highlights the adaptability of U.S. Army Pacific forces. By integrating real-world Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) disposal into the broader air defense training exercise, the U.S. military demonstrates its readiness to continuously modernize operations while delivering real-world results that matter to its partners.

“The ability to rapidly and safely address hazardous munitions demonstrates the readiness and responsiveness of U.S. Army Pacific forces,” Okamura added. “By resolving this threat, we help ensure Palau’s communities remain safe and resilient, and that U.S. forces are prepared to prevail in any contingency.”

The operation reinforces the deep partnership between the U.S. and Palau—rooted in mutual respect, shared security interests, and an enduring commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.

How to Translate Your Military Experience into a Winning Civilian Career

AUGUST 6, 2026 – For service members in transition and veterans building civilian careers, the hardest part often isn’t the work itself, it’s explaining it.
