Foundation Hosts Celebrations for Army’s 250th Birthday

JUNE 13, 2025 – The Army Historical Foundation proudly announces that Walmart will serve as its corporate marketing sponsor for commemorations of the Army’s 250th Birthday. Walmart’s contribution will enable the Foundation to host special celebrations and events throughout 2025 and support the Foundation’s promotion of a special Revolutionary War exhibition that debuted at the National Museum of the United States Army near Alexandria, Virginia on June 7.  The exhibition is anticipated to be one of the most impressive and compelling collections of period artifacts assembled for the historic anniversary.

“The Army’s 250th Birthday is an extraordinary milestone, and we are grateful to Walmart for helping us celebrate by reminding the nation of all that we owe the American Soldier,” said retired Brig. Gen. Burt Thompson, president of The Army Historical Foundation. “The Army’s first Soldiers won our nation’s freedom and the generations that followed made extraordinary sacrifices to protect it ever since.”

The National Museum of the United States Army’s special exhibition, CALL TO Arms: The Soldier and the Revolutionary War, displays a rare collection of Revolutionary War artifacts from the original colonies, England, France and Canada. It is included in the Museum’s free admission from June 2025 through June 2027 to mark both the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army and the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding in 2026.

Jessica Huntsman, an Army veteran who serves as Vice President and Regional General Manager at Walmart said, “At Walmart, supporting military families isn’t just a program, it’s part of our DNA. We’re dedicated to offering opportunities and affordability to those who serve and their families who make so many sacrifices for our nation. We’re proud to be part of the Army’s 250th Birthday and celebrate the brave men and women who serve our country. Encouraging the next generation to carry on this legacy of service and sacrifice is something we truly believe in at Walmart.”

Walmart’s gift also sponsors the Foundation’s three-day battle ride through New England’s Revolutionary War sites taking place July 18 – 20. Participants will explore the first scenes of the American Revolution, accompanied by military historians. Three Foundation events celebrating the legacy of the American Soldier at the National Army Museum are also supported by Walmart, including the 6.14 kilometer race that took place on June 8 (honoring the official June 14 birthday), an Army vs. Navy 5K on December 6, and an Army vs. Navy Watch Party and Tailgate on December 13.

Walmart’s gift qualifies the company for the Foundation’s 250th Patron Campaign, which is calling on corporations, foundations, and individuals to mark the 250th Birthday with a significant gift toward the Foundation’s mission. Patrons will have their names recognized on the Donor Wall inside the Museum Lobby and receive special opportunities, including private exhibit visits and behind-the-scenes tours.
