17-Year-Old Hit by a Car; Dreams of Joining the Air Force

Von Fusco, a happy, loving, kind, and patriotic 17-year-old was hit by a car, and he needs our help. Please give to his recovery fund here.

Von Fusco is a 17-year-old boy who was hit by a car on Labor Day, 2012. A proud member of his high school’s Air Force ROTC unit, where he serves as a member of the color guard, Von is athletically gifted and always energetic, and he also serves as commander of the unit’s Orienteering Team.

Always laughing, Von is described as outgoing, cheerful, and kind. He’s the sort of kid who would quite literally give you the shirt off his back–no matter whether you were a family member, a friend, or a complete stranger. Von is an enthusiastic and regular blood donor, even though he fears needles. And just last week he stopped to help an old man who was dragging heavy suitcases across a busy road.

Von does things like this all the time, without asking for a tip or thanks. And he doesn’t brag about his good deeds, either. Von’s just not that kind of boy. He helps others simply because he can.

Now Von needs our help. The doctors say that, even if everything goes perfectly, he’ll be in the hospital for at least six weeks. He will need his mother to be near him. Initially in a coma, Von’s also going to need expensive therapy and equipment, if he’s to reach his dream.

And what is that dream?

In the waiting room, Von’s mom half-laughs, half sobs that “Von lives, eats, and sleeps the Air Force.” Von’s dream is simple. He wants to join the Air Force. Imagine: some 17-year-olds dream of owning fast cars or of having a lot of money–but Von dreams of putting his life on the line for you and for me. He’s an amazing person.

Times are hard, and almost everyone is struggling these days, but if everyone who reads this donates even a few dollars, the fund will grow enormously. We can all help Von reach for his dream together. This fundraiser ends on Von’s 18th birthday, October 21st.

If you or anyone you know is interested in helping Von, please visit http://www.giveforward.com/love4von for more information on how to donate to his cause and his continued progress on the road to recovery.
