BETHESDA, Md. (NNS) — The Naval Sea Systems command co-hosted a career forum Dec. 3 at Naval Support Activity Bethesda to inform Sailors affected by the Enlisted Retention Board process about career opportunities in the government.
Several Sailors affected by the ERB process attended the forum which included resume writing advice, job interview tips, and a chance to network with more than 20 government agencies and private companies including, the ATF, the Department of Homeland Security, Aegis Worldwide, and Clearedjobs.com.
“Today was a learning experience for me,” said Aviation Electronics Technician 1st Class Marcus Perryman. “The information I received was helpful, and will be helpful to other shipmates at my command.”
The forum was part of the Shipmates to Workmates program, an initiative managed jointly by the Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Air Systems Command, Naval Facilities Command, Naval Supply Systems Command, Commander, Naval Installations, Space and Naval Warfare Command, and the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations – to provide information about career opportunities available at partnering commands and actively assist Sailors prepare job applications and resumes.
“This was the first job fair I have ever attended, and it really sets the bar for me,” said Aviation Technician 1st Class Steven Ross. “When I go to the next one, I will know to bring several resumes. I also learned that I should tailor each resume to the specific job to which I am applying.”
Each of the participating commands will participate in job fairs and other hiring events for transitioning Sailors. The next event is a career forum that will be held in the Norfolk area, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at One Navy Drive, Virginia Beach Va. Future forums are scheduled at fleet concentration areas throughout the country.
