Majors Non-Selected Twice for Promotion May be Eligible for TERA

Juny 8, 2014, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas (AFNS) – Majors not selected for promotion for a second time during the current year 2014A lieutenant colonel line of the Air Force J central selection board, including those who declined continuation, may be eligible for the temporary early retirement authority program, Air Force Personnel Center officials said July 3.

Officers who were not offered continuation must separate by Dec. 31. Those who apply and are approved for TERA may request a retirement effective date of Jan. 1, 2015 or earlier.

To be eligible for TERA, affected officers must have at least 15, but fewer than 20 years of total active federal military service time, and at least eight years of active federal commissioned time as of their requested retirement date.

TERA applications, including commander coordination, are due to AFPC no later than Sept. 30. Officers can apply via the Virtual Military Personnel Flight online retirement application process.

All Airmen who separate under a voluntary or involuntary force management program are authorized permissive TDY and mandatory transition assistance program, or TAP, support.
