May 30, 2014, RALEIGH, N.C. (NNS) – More than 600 wounded warriors and veterans filed into the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton North/Midtown in Raleigh, North Carolina, May 29 for the Hiring Heroes Career Fair.
The career fair took place on day two of the two-day Wounded Warrior and Veteran Hiring and Support Conference.
Hiring managers and human resource professionals from more than 70 businesses were on-site to look at resumes, conduct interviews, and potentially hire wounded warriors, veterans and their spouses.
Prior to the career fair kickoff, Honorable Juan Garcia, III, Assistant Secretary of the Navy Manpower and Reserve Affairs gave opening remarks.
“For all of you who gave up your busy work days to come here today, this is real patriotism,” said Garcia. “This is putting your money where your mouth is and you won’t regret it.”
Two workshops were held during the career fair as well to assist attendees in their employment search efforts.
One workshop focused on career assessment, goal setting and veteran’s skill translation. The other workshop provided information about military credentialing and licensing, veteran initiatives, and the military spouse employment program.
