Army Training Network Becomes More User Friendly

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (May 13, 2013) — New features on the Army Training Network website now make it easier for Soldiers and commanders to access vital training materials.

“Changes to the homepage and the site’s content have streamlined access and sped up information delivery,” said Jimmy Davis, Army Training Network, or ATN, team lead at the Combined Arms Center – Training’s Training Management Directorate, or TMD. “We know Soldiers need information now, not tomorrow.”

TMD is responsible for ATN, the Army’s one-stop shop and information source for training. Its web site is at: https://atn.army.mil/.

Davis outlined recent improvements and established features on the ATN web site:

• The top of the page has a new menu item called: My Favorites. It allows users to add frequently visited portions of the web site.

• On the page’s left side, users have direct access to Unit Training Management information. It provides ready entry to Army Doctrine Publication and Army Doctrine Reference Publication 7-0 for the step-by-step unit training approach of plan-prepare-execute-assess.

• On the page’s right side, leaders have immediate access to the NCO Corner, which focuses on the Non-commissioned Officer’s role in training management.

• At the page’s center is the What’s Hot in training section that provides Soldiers a quick way to review current issues.

• The changes to the page are highlighted in the categorization section. They reflect the most searched areas of the ATN website for topics such as: Featured Content, Training for Current Operations, Leader Development and Fundamental Soldier Skills.

• The bottom of the page lists the training bulletin board as well as a tabbed area to offer quick access to the Digital Training Management System, Resources, ATN Downloads and the most recent ATN uploads.

• The refined search collections feature ensures all content is tagged, and search results are ordered based on the content requested by search terms.

The ATN made the improvements based on users’ requests, visits to the field and technical innovations, Davis said. He said the changes show ATN’s constant evolution.

A video highlighting the improvements to the ATN website can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAUBuJ5NX2kbf73db881e6b242d22232d6df18ce2fdc2b375bfd24b8fc97b41771089434183a244c70add030dea7068970e9ab57bd1ee4aea0dde71143baefe3ca71efb163efeature=youtu.be

“The ATN website now has a Facebook page and Twitter feed that are persistently updated,” Davis said. “The content management team is always updating the entire website with new information.”

CAC-T manages the Army’s Training Support System Enterprise, the Training Development Enterprise and the Combat Training Center Program to enable commanders and commandants to train and educate versatile units and develop agile and adaptive leaders to execute Mission Command in order to conduct Unified Land Operations.

CAC-T’s web site is at http://usacac.army.mil/cac2/CAC-T/. Its Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/usacactraining. Its Twitter handle is: @usacactraining.
