January 5, 2017, by Rachael Murphey – Deployment is an emotional rollercoaster at the best of times. Fear, excitement, stress, loneliness, and concern for loved ones at home flood through you and frequently remain with you throughout the tour. It can be downright impossible to focus on the job without knowing that your spouse and children are protected in the home. To help protect your family while deployed, there are a few important steps to take.
Install a Home Alarm System
Install a home alarm system, which will monitor the property 24 hours each day and will alert the authorities if someone attempts to break into the building. The alarm will immediately sound if a door or window is opened when the device is turned on. You can also add a surveillance camera that records unusual activity on the property during the day and night.
Adopt a Guard Dog
A guard dog will help to monitor the home and can be kept both inside and outside to ensure that intruders are warned before they enter. The guard dog can prevent a burglar from targeting the home by barking at strangers who may pass by. If anyone enters the home, the dog will likely attack the intruder and can keep your family safe.
Add a Steel Screen Door
Many intruders are capable of getting into residential properties by kicking down the front door on the first level of the home. Installing a steel screen door on the front and back doors will make it more difficult to enter the home and can also make it difficult to peer inside of the property as burglars attempt to look for valuables.
Use a Motion Sensor Light
Burglars are known to hide in dim areas on the property as they attempt a break-in and peer into windows. Use a motion sensor light on the outside of the building, which will sense nearby activity and immediately turn on to ensure that the exterior property is well-lit. This will allow neighbors or the residents to view anyone that is hiding outside, which will cause them to flee to avoid being spotted.
Although it can be challenging to protect your family while you’re deployed overseas, there are several ways to ensure that you continue to keep your family safe and secure until you return. With the right tools and products used on your property, you can secure the premises and increase your family’s level of safety as they spend time at home while you’re away.
