October 22, 2015, By Rachelle Wilber – Veterans have put their lives on the line for freedom. Society is grateful for their service. One small way some businesses show their gratitude is by offering veterans special discounts that aren’t available to other customers. Below is a list of eight of the best discounts that veterans should know about.
Lowes and Home Depot
The corporate owner of the home improvement stores, Lowes and Home Depot, takes great pride in the 10 percent discount they offer veterans. In years past, this discount was only available on holidays like the Fourth of July and Memorial Day. However, it is now available every day of the year.
Overstock.com runs a special free rewards program specifically for veterans named Club O Military through Discountrue. Veterans that sign up get 5 percent off and each purchase as well as free shipping. On specific products, this discount can raise to 25 percent. Veterans also earn points through purchases that can be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. For even more savings, check Discountrue.com for the most valuable Overstock coupons and deals.
If you are a vet and in the mood for pancakes and bacon, you should stop by your local IHOP. The International House of Pancakes offers a very generous 20 percent discount to veterans who show their ID to their waitress.
Another one of the most generous food discounts for current and former members of the armed forces can be found at Papa Murphy’s pizzeria. Showing your military ID can you get you 50 percent off one pizza.
Kohl’s is one of the largest department stores in the United States with 1,162 stores. It also values the service of the men and women of the US military. Veteran’s can expect to get a 15 percent discount on every purchase.
Veteran’s can also save on shoes as well. At Foot Locker, Kid’s Foot Locker and Lady Footlocker, veterans can receive a 20 percent discount by presenting a valid military ID.
Budget Car Rental
Veterans can also get significant savings while traveling. Budget car rental, for example, offers veterans a very generous 25 percent discount.
Military veterans can also save on their monthly phone service. Verizon, for example, offers current and former members of the US military a 15 percent discount on the bill for their primary phone line.
Overall, veterans have sacrificed a lot for our country and risked their lives in the name of freedom. Military discounts are one small way businesses can give back.
