Coast Guard Physical Fitness Requirements

The United States Coast Guard requires a lot from their service members. In the Coast Guard you could find yourself apprehending drug runners, saving lives, protecting the environment from polluters and guarding our shores from terrorists. This requires that you are healthy and physically fit. During basic training you will be required to pass several tests of physical fitness. You need to physically prepare for Coast Guard basic training.

Physical Fitness Requirements

Bent-Knee Sit Ups
This exercise measures abdominal muscular endurance.
Minimum Qualification for Graduation:
Male – 38 sit ups in one minute
Female – 32 sit ups in one minute

Push-Ups
This exercise measures the muscular endurance of the upper body.
Minimum Qualification for Graduation
Male – 29 push ups in one minute
Female – 15 push ups in one minute

Running
This exercise measures your full body endurance.
Minimum Qualification for Graduation
1.5 MILE RUN:
Male: 12:51 minutes
Female 15:26 minutes

Swimming
This exercise measures your ability to swim.
Minimum Qualification for Graduation
Jump off a six-foot platform into the pool, swim 100 meters, and tread water for five minutes. Swimming on your back is not permitted.
